Lock Problems Over the Holidays: How to Prepare
Holidays mean travel, visitors and late nights, which is also when lock and key problems tend to appear. A little preparation goes a long way.
Before you travel
- Check every exterior door and window lock
- Make sure deadbolts fully extend into the frame
- Leave a spare key with a trusted neighbor, not under the mat
Hosting guests
If guests need a key, cut a temporary copy and get it back, or use a keypad lock with a guest code you delete afterwards.
If something goes wrong

After the holidays
If keys went missing during the festivities, consider rekeying so you know exactly who has access.
